Product grouping & scheduling

Layer rules into groups: new arrivals, then bestsellers, then the rest. Schedule a flash-sale bucket for four hours or a gift guide that appears on December 1st.

One sort order is rarely the whole story

A collection is often several merchandising jobs stacked: a launch strip, a campaign set, the commercial middle, then the long tail. Product grouping lets you layer those jobs as buckets. Products match the first group they qualify for, get sorted inside that group, and everything unmatched falls through to the next rule.

Layered rules

Typical stacks merchants actually run:

  • Pinned heroes, then new arrivals (14 days), then in-stock bestsellers, then the rest by margin.
  • A gift-guide group on a tag, then evergreen ranking underneath.
  • Full-price products first, sale items after — without building two collections.

Grouping is not the same as product balancing. Balancing interleaves vendors or types so the grid does not clump. Grouping decides which story the shopper hits first.

Scheduled merchandising

Groups can be time-boxed. A flash-sale bucket that only ranks for four hours. A gift guide that appears on December 1st and drops on the 26th. A new-launch window that expires after seven days. Inactive groups are skipped, so products fall through to the next matching rule — nobody has to wake up at midnight to drag tiles.

That is campaign scheduling for collection pages: start, end, done. Combine it with pins for the products that must occupy exact slots while the scheduled group fills the rest.
